Bled Island, Bled

#2 of 10 in Parks in Bled
Island · Religious Site
Ride a traditional wooden boat called a "pletna" or rent your own boat and row to Bled Island rising above the surface of a glacial lake. This Ice Age limestone glacial deposit covered with trees is thought to have been inhabited since prehistoric times. Archaeological excavations have uncovered traces of Slavic settlements from the 9th and 10th centuries. Legend has it that the present stone Baroque church was built on the remains of an ancient temple dedicated to the Slavic goddess of fertility. Climb the monumental 99 steps leading up to the church and ring the "wishing bell" above the church nave. • Spent 40 minutes here after being taken on the Pletna boats, great place, bell tower is a rip off though 12 euros to go up the tower. Great walk around the island and great photo opportunities  more »
  • Park Your Boat at Bled Island, then head right up to the church to pull the 'wishing bell.' Legend has it that pulling it will bring you good luck! Just Remember - One Wish Per Person!🍀🔔
  • A tiny island in the middle of the Lake Bled. There is a church in the island. Ride a boat to get there and climb up that popular 99 steps. The lake, the island and the overall surrounding area are just beautiful. Take a picture with the alps as the background and that would be your next phone wallpaper. I took a bus from Ljubljana, forgot for how much euros but that was cheap. The bus stopped not really at the lake's gate, I did a short walk, not far.
