Morne Blanc, Victoria

4.8
#1 of 8 in Trails in Seychelles
Standing 667 m (2,188 ft) tall, Morne Blanc offers panoramic views of Mahe's western seaboard. Admire the sweeping panorama of the sea from the sheer cliff and peak that make up the mountain. The trail makes a continuous climb from an already high altitude in Morne Seychellois National Park. You'll pass through an old tea plantation along slopes with lemon grass. Misty coud forest are common, but on a clear day you will see the neighboring islands and lush hills. Endemic birds such as Seychelles swiftlet and sunbird will keep you company, and if you are lucky, you will hear the sound of the world's smallest frog. • There are also mountains. Morne Blanc is the highest point in the Seychelles. It's a bit hard walk (not very long but with quite unevenness) but it's worth it. You have to go with good shoes (no flip flops or T-shirts). It is advisable to bring plenty of water and something to snack on to replenish your strength when you reach the top.

  • It took us 1 1/2 hours to climb. It always goes steeply upwards through the rainforest. The forest is beautiful, but not breathtaking. The path is rather a Kletertsteig and quite narrow. In case of oncoming traffic, you have to dodge or wait. There are no views of the sea in between. The view above is very nice, you can see almost the entire west coast. It took us 57 minutes to get down, which was easier.
