Le Jardin Du Roi Spice Garden, Mahe Island

#6 of 29 in Parks in Mahe Island
Enjoy a meal with a panoramic view of the sea at Le Jardin Du Roi Spice Garden, a lush hilltop garden and restaurant. The garden cultivates a wide variety of spices, including vanilla, citronella, and nutmeg, as well as endemic plants--all of which feature in meals served at the establishment. Learn about the plants' cultivation and use, and visit the small museum testifying to the island's vibrant spice trade in the past. Shop for some spices, homemade jams, and marmalade, and stop in the yard to see the pet tortoises. • According to the description of the guide, we had corresponding expectations for the garden. This is located above the Anse Royal and can be reached by bus, but you still have to walk uphill from the stop for a good 1.5 km to reach the entrance. This is quite feasible but not easy with the humidity. The garden gave the impression of a wilderness rather than a cultivated area. The restaurant in the Jardin du Roi, which is said to be known for its creole cuisine, was also rather disappointing. It was better in many takeaways. I would not consider a second visit.

  • The approach to the garden is a little adventurous but actually no problem. There is a restaurant, we only had drinks and visited the garden. In the garden there are many different plants, along with lots of information, interesting to learn a bit about the flora of the islands.

  • Fantastic tropical garden. Very similar to the Eden project in Cornwall UK, but in a natural environment rather then under a biome. Highly recommended but try to avoid mid day heat as there is a lot of walking up and down the garden
  • Up a steep hill (becareful in a small rental car ). Has a beautiful flower garden. Think it was a poke stop too, lol. Worth going to if you are in the Seychelles.
