Grand Anse, La Digue Island

Lying on the southeast coast of the island, Grand Anse appeals with its wild and remote surroundings--a contrast to some of its more accessible neighbors. As the island's longest beach, it offers plenty of space to find a quiet spot in which to bask in the sun, looking out across the bright hues of the water. Bring plenty of refreshments and ideally some shade, due to the lack of facilities. Strong currents during monsoon season (April through October) can make swimming here dangerous, so be careful and pay attention to the warning signs. Grand Anse is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, La Digue Island Edition.

  • Rather pretty but swimming is strongly discouraged. Every year there are deaths... to swim on this side you have to go to coconut cove in the natural pool at the bottom of the beach which is on the left but it takes 40 to 50 minutes of walking. However this may be worth it as this natural pool contains harmless reef sharks and friendly to see!!
