Built in 2010, this 49 m (160 ft) tall monument to African renaissance is the tallest statue in Africa, representing a muscular man holding a toddler and hugging a woman. • After goree, we ate at the restaurant of France Gall and finished at the monument of rebirth. About 200 steps to climb for a magnificent view...

  • Didn't go inside the museum but this bronze carving is massive and impressive. The climb up staircase can be challenging for some people but I saw a road on the back side that ya is can drive right up...  more »

  • Beautiful monument overlooking the sea. It's also a good place to work out as the base of the statue is windy. You could jog up and down the stairs as well as any other routines at the base
  • A beautiful monument! There is a museum underneath the monument, much like the Statue of Liberty, and though it is entirely in French, it's still pretty interesting. I went there during the beginning of my stay in Dakar, when my French was relatively minimal, but I still really enjoyed it! You can also go, via elevator, to the head/hat of the man. Super cool and would definitely recommend for part of a sightseeing trip.
