The Palace of King Mutara III Rudahigwa, Nyanza

#5 of 12 in Historic Sites in Rwanda
Learn about the royal history of Rwanda at The Palace of King Mutara III Rudahigwa, built in the 1930s by the Belgians. Although much of the palace's furniture disappeared during the 1994 genocide, the home remains an interesting place with its three sitting rooms, one of which served for receiving only white guests. • Really interesting to learn about Rwanda's history and how they lived before the arrival of Europeans.  more »
  • The most burlesque tour of our stay in Rwanda. Cannot have the minimum explanation on how the visits to the reception work. The modern Palace is ridiculously empty, you will visit 4 walls and some "replicas" of furniture of the time.. (which doesn't look like the pictures at all) Perhaps our bad experience also rests on our guide who did not give us any info, nor anecdotes in a confused and repetitive speech. ("Here's the room, the Office, the kitchen..") The traditional palate is more interesting to visit, but don't get me wrong, it's a replica of a 15m diameter. When at the art gallery museum, it can be accessed free of charge following the visit of the Palace. Normal, according to our guide, he was emptied of all his works in the direction of Kigali, nothing more to see there so except the building. In short, go your way. Price: 6000 Rwf per pers + 3000 Rwf per pers to see Royal cows.
