Faberge Museum, St. Petersburg

4.7
View the Imperial Easter eggs created for the last two Russian emperors, Alexander III and Nicholas II, at Faberge Museum. Devoted to the creative work of the great Russian jeweler Carl Faberge, this privately owned museum was founded to repatriate lost cultural valuables to Russia, and features approximately 4,000 works of decorative applied and fine arts, including gold and silver items, paintings, porcelain, and bronze. Much of the collection belonged to the royal family and other members of the monarchist courts of Europe. Guided tours last about an hour and are offered in Russian and English, although English tours are limited so be sure to reserve in advance through the website, or call the museum directly. You can explore the museum independently during specific hours, otherwise you must join a guided tour to view the exhibits. Note that photography is not permitted inside the museum. • Took us by surprise as I would now consider it the best museum in the city. Stunning architecture and the artwork was superior to that found in the bigger museums in the city. Would go to the top of my list for visitors to St P.
  • It was fantastic being able to see the famous eggs up close. I had my nose pressed up against the glass enclosure, as I didn't want to miss a single detail ! I'd recommend getting the audio guide, as it explains the design of each egg, when it was produced, why it was produced & the little surprise inside the egg.... Great experience. Don't miss it ! Entrance fee is 500 rubles & another 250 rubles for the audio guide (a deposit of 500 rubles is required).
