Grand Peterhof Palace, Peterhof

#2 of 3,867 in Museums in Russia
Once the summer residence of Russian monarchs, Grand Peterhof Palace forms part of a sprawling complex of buildings and gardens recognized as a World Heritage Site. Built on the orders of Peter the Great, the 30-room palace underwent a series of renovations under Catherine the Great, who slightly toned down the glittering halls and elaborately decorated chambers. Seriously damaged during World War II, the renovated palace now offers guided tours of its galleries, filled with original art and furniture. The main hall notably houses twelve large paintings depicting scenes from a major naval battle of the Russo-Turkish War. Other highlights include Peter the Great's velvet throne and decorative objects imported from China. Check online for opening hours and guided tour options. • Astonished palace full of art and gold.Beautiful gardens and fountains made from pure gold! You can see how the Tzars lived in the past. Must see in St Pete
  • Awoid going inside the palace at any cost. 1000 rub. Wasted for 15 mins. There are separate tickets for every part of palace, so it adds up needing very expensive. Very rude personnel, nothing much to see inside, parts of rooms are "decorated" with fake aluminium with screws showing up. Save you money and time and visit park outside. Worst experience in whole trip to st. Petersburg.
