Cotroceni Palace (Palatul Cotroceni), Bucharest

4.1
Explore the collections of plastic and decorative arts, numismatics, and medals at Cotroceni Palace (Palatul Cotroceni). King Carol I of Romania commissioned a classical Venetian-style palace in 1888. The north wing, which houses the presidential residence, was added later. The older part of the palace is home to the National Museum. The museum shop sells postcards, guides, brochures, religious icons, glass objects, ceramics, and textiles by renowned artists. While at the palace, hop over to the church of the former monastery, which was destroyed by the orders of Nicolae Ceauşescu in 1984. You will need a valid ID to enter the museum. The rest of the palace is only open to visitors once a year, when the president decides to do so.
