Must see · Garden · Nature / Park
A feast for the senses, Jardin des Parfums et des Epices invites you to explore the island's endemic plant species. This private garden--sitting on an 800-year-old volcanic flow and boasting over 1,500 species--opened its gates to the public in 1989. Take a guided tour for insight into the historical and scientific aspects of the area and its aromatics, spices, medicinal plants, and centuries-old trees. The scents will linger with you long after you've finished the tour, especially if you take a part of the garden home: the gift shop sells a variety of essential oils and jams. • I can't be sure it's a nice collection. Nothing is marked, so you can't find your way around the garden. And the tour is only available in French, despite being advertised in English. Very sad we...  more »
  • We were so looking forward to visiting this garden but oh were we disappointed. Firstly once we arrived at the turning for the garden the pot holes in the road were so bad we nearly turned back...  more »
  • Beautiful area, with tons of exotic plants. Plant lovers paradise! The shop with it has gorgeous vanilla pods at a fair price. The smell is incredible. Be aware it's a jungle though so potential for plenty of mosquitoes. Cons, the road to it is riddled with potholes and there are no signs with any of the plants. It's a French island so don't expect any English with the guides or staff.
  • Lovely garden/forest with a wide range of species. Enjoy a walk in the green and savoir the scents and colours of the indigenous plants of Réunion. The reception’s attitude towards guests is a bit snobby if you‘re not proficient in the French language (reason for 4 stars). The shop is well stocked with partially in-house (or rather in-front-of-the-house) produced items such als spices and vanilla. A nice improvement would be a coffee machine or any sort of outlet other than factory made juices out of a fridge in the shop to savour on their beautiful front porch in the middle of the jungle.
