Plage de l'Ermitage, Saint-Gilles-Les-Bains

#2 of 10 in Parks in Saint-Gilles-Les-Bains
Beach · Nature / Park
The island's longest beach, Plage de l'Ermitage attracts recreational swimmers and snorkelers with its calm waters. Shaded by a line of casuarina trees, the beach is covered with powdery white sand mostly made of ground corals and shells. The lagoon, a designated nature reserve, is protected from the dangers of the open sea--namely shark attacks and strong waves--by a fringing reef. Shallow waters make it easy and comfortable to explore the colorful wildlife along the reef, even for the experienced. Meanwhile, the beachfront cafes and restaurants offer tasty refreshment, such as coconut smoothies.
