Traverse the iconic Ponte de Dom Luis I along its pedestrian pathway for beautiful views of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. When it was completed in 1886, this 172 m (564 ft) bridge was the longest of its kind in the world. Now the two-hinged, double-deck, arched steel bridge is beloved for the spectacular vantage points it offers. The bridge is comprised of a lower section for cars and an upper section for a light rail and pedestrians. If you walk across the bridge, you can take photos from the high above the Douro River. Ponte de Dom Luis I Reviews
As others have mentioned, the views from both upper & lower decks are really good, even on a cloudy overcast day. The main advantage of this bridge is its proximity to the main sights on either side..... more »
Very interesting piece of construction and it deserves It status as eyecatcher of the city. To bad there is a big constructioncrane near it at the moment, probably for an other year, so the photo... more »
Whether you're crossing sides, admiring the architectural design of the bridge, or taking an evening stroll, this is a spot you have to see on your stay in Porto. The metro line crosses over it which makes it really easy to reach, but be careful as you're walking along not to stray onto the road! You can get some fantastic views of both sides of the city, but mind where you stand as lots of people will be walking along the pavement too.
Possibility my favourite bridge in the world! This beautiful landmark is a must visit in Porto. The bridge had a upper level, lower level and a tram that crosses it. The best way to experience it is walking across the upper level. It is safe for children. I love that you can see both sides of the Douro river.
