Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Central Poland / Mazovia Province / Warsaw / The National Museum in Warsaw
At The National Museum in Warsaw, see the largest Polish painting, "Battle of Grunwald" by Jan Matejko, and the largest European collection of artifacts of the Nubian culture. The museum features about 830,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, illustrations, photographs, numismatic items, and objects of applied arts. Do not miss the medieval art collection, including intricate altarpieces and painted wooden statues from all over Poland. Look for the paintings reclaimed after being stolen during World War II, such as "Jewish Woman Selling Oranges" and "Black Woman." Rest in a cafe or on one of the benches of an inside courtyard with a fountain. A park behind the building once served as prince's gardens. Painting and artifacts from different eras. Personally, I was disappointed with the exhibitions. I had expected more information on the history of the Polish people. more »
Great museum. Nice polish painting, statues are artistic. Ticket entry. For normal adult it costs 20zł (polish currency). Totally worth it. Monday it closed.
Great museum. Amazing mediaeval art gallery. Very good presentation of Polish painters. Definitely worth visiting. Norman ticket for adults costs 20 zł, audio guide 10 zł. Elevators for disabled people, great gift shop with interesting books both in Polish and English. I guess you need at least 4 full hours to fully check everything. Pros: 1) great visual art from classical styles and periods to postmodern 2) availability, prices, audio guide explanations and exhibition design 3) representation of Polish art Problems: 1) at some levels the floor squeaks too much; 2) general Polish attitude towards strangers; 3) weird map.
