Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Central Poland / Mazovia Province / Warsaw / Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow
A symbol of Poland's royal heritage, Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow features an art collection that represents generations of collecting from the country's royal families. The museum was founded in the 19th century, but much of the artwork was taken by Nazi occupiers in World War II. However, after the war ended many of the pieces were recovered and returned, including paintings by Peter Paul Rubens and Pompeo Batoni, and artifacts from the Qing Dynasty. The main floor is a series of royal rooms with Baroque decor, marble columns, chandeliers, and polished floors. The second floor houses the portrait gallery, while artifacts and private collectibles appear throughout the palace. The site is now a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw and frequently hosts lectures, events, and temporary exhibits. The palace and museum are large, so give yourself plenty of time to tour. Consider renting an audio guide in your native language for a self-guided tour. Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow reviews
This beautiful baroque palace is a must-visit for tourists in Warsaw. The museum is definitely interesting but the best part is taking a walk around the beautiful gardens around the palace and admire.... more »

Beautiful building and garden, worth a visit. On Thursdays, access to the main building and the garden is for free. Tickets for some additional rooms are not but worth a visit as well. Rooms are nicely renovated and decorated. There is an audio tour, each room has sheets explaining some furniture and other pieces of art, both in Polish and English, and there is an app, providing loads of details about the history of the building, its past, and the renovation process. Especially the last few rooms are packed with paintings of the original art collection of King Jan III. This collections is quite diverse and does not contain any exceptional pieces but his love and vision for art and its accessibility to the people is admirable. We spent several hours in the palace and the garden and did enjoy every moment. Parking is for free but parking space is limited and it might require some creativity to find yourself a spot. But it is all worth it!
One of the most beautiful palaces I’ve ever visited. You can download an app for free which can guide you through. It had some extraordinary paintings and sculptures. There is also a nice garden to walk.
