Ruinas de Jesús, Encarnacion

#2 of 10 in Things to do in Encarnacion
The red brick walls and columns at Ruinas de Jesús once belonged to a 17th-century Jesuit mission, and today remain as a World Heritage Site. The ruins include a church, a school, a major square, and lodgings for orphans and widows known as the Great House. Jesuits started to build the church, which was to be one of the largest in the area, in 1756, but had to abandon it when they were expelled from the country ten years later.
