Naeroyfjord, Gudvangen

#17 of 122 in Nature in Western Norway
World heritage site · Geologic Formation · Water Body
Surrounded by towering peaks and steep mountainsides, Naeroyfjord remains the wildest and narrowest arm of the Sognefjord. A listed World Heritage Site, the 17 km (10.5 mi) fjord represents the highlight of many nature and wildlife tours. You can enjoy its snowfields, hanging valleys, and waterfalls from afar on a dramatic sailing trip or hike up its steep hills and admire them from up close. Keep an eye open for seals basking on rocks and goats grazing near picturesque hamlets and small traditional farms. Named after the Norse god of the sea, the fjord served as an inspiration for the fictional town of Arendelle in Disney's animated fantasy film "Frozen."
