Trip Planner: South Pacific / New Zealand / North Island / Northland Region / Whangarei / Whangarei Falls
Marvel at the cascading water and lush native bush of Whangarei Falls. The dramatic waterfall plunges 26.3 m (86.3 ft) over basalt cliffs, creating an impressive spectacle that can be enjoyed from three viewing platforms. Two circular walking routes surround the falls, allowing you to take them in from various angles. The Whangarei Falls loop spans just 1 km (0.6 mi) and takes around 30 minutes, while the Sands Road loop stretches 4.8 km (3 mi) and should take approximately three hours. Bear in mind that both walks involve crossing a bridge with no handrail, which may make some visitors nervous. Though neither route is particularly strenuous, comfortable walking shoes are advisable. A picnic area and restrooms are located by the parking lot. Make Whangarei Falls a centerpiece of your Whangarei vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Whangarei travel planner.

The Whangarei Falls are beautiful and very impressive to see. There's a great parking place and also public toilets for everyone to use. The walking path towards the falls is very impressive and also a great hike. This is really a great place to stay for a while and wandering around or swim. There also some extra walking tracks to choose from. I really recommend this place to visit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
The Whangarei Falls is a very nice place to go to for any occasion, whether that be for an adventure or just for a nice break away from life’s stresses. The grounds and resources are always maintained and taken care of and litter is rare to be spotted. The beautiful scenic views really do create the heart of Whangarei. “Love it here!”.
