Trip Planner: South Pacific / New Zealand / North Island / Manawatu-Wanganui Region / Whanganui / Bason Botanic Gardens
Where stunning architecture meets dramatic botanical displays you'll find Bason Botanic Gardens. Follow the pathways through the six different sections of the gardens: the exotic conifer arboretum; the dress circle with its English garden and orchid, begonia, and tropical houses; the succulent gardens and herb gardens; the subtropical gardens at Millennium Hill; the native bush and wetlands; and the lakeside flats and woodlands. Other activities include orienteering, geo-caching, a Frisbee course, barbecuing, and picnicking. Explore the gardens via the network of trails, or by car. Of particular mention is the orchid collection, one of the most extensive public orchid gardens in the country. Bason Botanic Gardens Reviews
I was there in early spring, so not much was blooming, however everything looked great. Would loved to have seen better signage on the plants to know what they were. more »

What is it look beautiful!! You have to keep a bit of climbing as it is somewhat hilly but there you get a lot in return. Really a must if you like flowers and plants.
Beautiful tree and botanic space. For those less mobile, being driven through and about is a respite and delight - and many of the paths and conservatories are accessible. Every visit has brought me and those I have visited with uplift. To see Stanley Bason’s dream of a space to be created for it’s therapeutic and healing properties become real is another inspiration in itself. ''Through the trouble of this world there still runs a thin stream of serenity for those who seek it'' Stanley Bason
Such a beautiful experience. Grand colors and lots of different plants! Very well maintained will be back.
