Rippon Vineyard, Wanaka

4.1
#3 of 37 in Wineries in Otago Region
Set lakeside against the rolling blue hills and light blue waters, Rippon Vineyard is a treat for the eyes and the palate. The vineyard takes advantage of Central Otago's unique climate--the only continental climate in all of New Zealand. The high UV light, long hours of sunshine, and refractive soil yield Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Osteiner and Gamay. Learn about the history of the wine and this biodynamic vineyard through a wine tasting session led by a knowledgeable guide. • The wines there are produced by the biodynamic method, which gives new aromas and tastes... I was able to taste 5 labels, I found all very good! The winery is at a higher point where you have a BEAUTIFUL view of Lake Wanaka. Unfortunately they do not have a transfer to the city or Queenstown, but once you reach Wanaka (by bus), you can walk there (25-30 minutes), but it is an ascent. On the way back, despite being down, I recommend calling a taxi to take you back to the city. The wines have good prices, please take some bottles :-)

  • My husband (woo!) and I recently wed in an intimate ceremony at Rippon Estate, and we couldn't have chosen a more beautiful venue if we tried. Kelcey from Rippon was so lovely and accommodating from the start right through to the day of the wedding. The views were to die for and our photos from the day are more than we could have hoped for with the amazing backdrop. Thank you so much for letting us begin our next chapter at your beautiful vineyard!
  • We recently visited Wanaka and made a quick stop at the Rippon Vineyard. The venue is situated just above the lake, perhaps 10 minutes past ThatWanakaTree if you are on the lakeside walking trail. It is further accessible from the Mt. Aspiring Rd. if you are driving. Opening hours 11-5pm daily. We liked our tasting experience at Rippon. While we didn't find wines here that we were in love with, we enjoyed our brief discussion with the young lady providing the tasting. She did a nice job introducing us to this vineyard and the varies grapes grown here. A further quick mention that the views of lake are impressive from the Rippon Vineyard, perhaps reason enough to visit, even if some in your party are not interested in wine tastings.
