The highest waterfall on North Island, Wairere Falls tumbles 153 m (500 ft) over a two-step drop in Kaimai Range. The long walking trail toward the attraction first reaches a rest point at a platform overlooking a valley, where you can view the falls from afar. Continue along the path and make the climb to the top of the falls, where another platform provides a magnificent viewpoint at the mouth of the waterfall. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and avoid visiting if rain is expected, as the trail becomes muddy and difficult to navigate when wet. Walk to the look out at the bottom of the falls is around 40 minutes which is reasonable with a large staircase close to midway. The second half is a bit steeper until you get to the top that you then walk along the too to the top of the waterfall.
Highest waterfalls of north island New Zealand .. definitely worth a hike all the way up. However it is a difficult walk from lookout point to the top of the waterfalls.
