Monro Beach, Lake Moeraki

#12 of 18 in Parks in Westland National Park (Te Wahipounamu)
See one of the world's rarest penguin species at Monro Beach, bordered by lowland and wetland rainforests. Fiordland crested penguins are best seen here between August and November-- you can also spot fur seals, sea lions, and even Hector's dolphins, the world's smallest dolphins. A walk through a dense forest will take you to this calm bay, where you can collect shells and join a guided tour to see glowing worms after dark. A visit to Monro Beach represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Lake Moeraki trip itinerary builder tool to plot your vacation.
