When in Paihia, use the opportunity to take a break and immerse yourself in the scenic natural surroundings of Haruru Falls. While at 5 m (16 ft) the waterfall may not be one of the tallest in New Zealand, it's definitely one of the easiest to reach. After a short walk over a well-maintained trail through lush nature, you'll be able to enjoy the views of the waterfall and relax on one of the benches. Despite not being very tall, the waterfall is fairly wide and carries a lot of water, especially during the colder months. If you're visiting when the weather is chillier, make sure to bring waterproof clothes to protect yourself from the spray.     We were "lucky" to be there during heavy rain. Much as the weather was disappointing, it made the waterfall extra spectacular.  more »

    Very short walk from parking to falls. Smaller than others, the viewing is good and the walk is short. There is an optional 3 hr round trip hike along the river, where there are said to be kiwis, but the area might be tricky to access at night. Worth the brief stop. Water did not look all that inviting to swim in.

    Kayaked here from downtown. Fun hour paddle. There are houses and lots of people around and the waterfall can be reached from the road. But still a fun adventure.
