Riccarton House & Bush, Christchurch

#3 of 19 in Historic Sites in Christchurch
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Park
Step into another era at Riccarton House & Bush, the carefully restored homestead of the pioneering Deans family--the first Europeans to settle in the Canterbury Plains. Take a guided tour of their grand Victorian and Edwardian house (it was built in stages), decorated and furnished in accurate period style, and visit the Deans' cottage, the family's first home and oldest building on the plains. Afterwards, enjoy a rustic, locally sourced meal at the restaurant, located within the house itself, or enjoy a peaceful stroll through the ornate gardens and surrounding bush--home to towering kahikatea trees some 600 years old. A popular farmer's market is held every Saturday on the site. See Riccarton House & Bush and all Christchurch has to offer by arranging your trip with our Christchurch road trip planning app.

  • Wonderfully preserved forest and plants, as well as the house and estate from mid 1800's.
  • Breakfast hotdog with a side of toxic masculinity! Get the okonomiyaki instead!
