Connect with distant ancestors at Stonehenge Aotearoa, a circular, open-sky observatory built as a modern interpretation of the mysterious ancient monuments in England and elsewhere around the world. The henge represents a window into the past, with stone circles having significance in so many different histories. Its neutral, circular structure welcomes people of all faiths, beliefs, cultures, and religions. Designed specifically for its location, the monument combines modern scientific knowledge with ancient Egyptian, Babylonian, Celtic, Polynesian, and Maori astronomy. Stand at the center and notice how the pillars and lintels form window framings: the positioning of stars inside and outside the frames become seasonal markers and distinguishers. Likewise, the stonehenge forms the shape of a Polynesian star compass, which helps navigate direction based on the placement of the stars during different times of the year. Opt to take a guided tour to make the most of your visit to this highly sophisticated structure. • Love love love 💕 this place. A connection to the universe right in our own back yard. This is a proper working stonehenge with knowledgeable hosts. Excellent and must visit
  • Friendly staff and a great back story to the structure. I liked how it incorporated Maori legend. Don't plan to stay more than an hour...that's about as long as you can stretch it
