Njegos Mausoleum, Cetinje

4.5
Njegos Mausoleum, built into mountain rock, is dedicated to the greatest poet and ruler of Montenegro, high above valleys and highland woods. Climb 461 steps to the 1,657 m (5,436 ft) rugged mountain peak to get to this burial place, and look for a sarcophagus that preserves the ruler's remains. Inside the mausoleum, you'll also see a large granite statue of Njegos, carved by one of the greatest Croatian sculptors of the 20th century--Ivan Meštrović--and a golden mosaic with over 200,000 gilded tiles on the 9 m (30 ft) high ceiling. From the outside on a clear day you can see more than half of Montenegro, Albania, and Croatia. The entrance to the territory of the Lovchen Reserve is 2 degrees, the entrance to the mausoleum is 5 degrees. Don't forget your money when you go to conquer the 461 steps leading to the top of the mountain, the cash register is closer to the top. I do not recommend to climb to the top of people with health problems and fear of height - on the mountain there are no handrails, in a strong wind on top will be very uncomfortable. No heels and slates, just steady sneakers or shoes. At the entrance to the mausoleum you will be met by two stone figures of women - the mother and sisters of the ruler, inside - 28 tone ...
