Trip Planner: Mexico / Central Mexico and Gulf Coast / Guanajuato / San Miguel de Allende / El Charco del Ingenio
Adventure across El Charco del Ingenio, a nature reserve and botanical garden that protects and displays a vast array of Mexican plant life. Cacti of many shapes and sizes form a large part of the collection--many considered rare, threatened, or nearing extinction. Take a guided tour to learn about the different varieties and the efforts to save those most at risk. Look for bird sanctuaries dotted throughout the park, and the interactive garden particularly popular with kids. The trails are arid but refreshed them here and there by the shade of some tree, of those typical of the region. There are breaks (very shaded benches) and viewpoints (points where the view is even more beautiful). It is the ideal place to jog long and hard. An interesting place to see if you want get put of crowds in the central city. It has scenic views of the lake beside it. A peaceful, relaxing place. You can see it in about an hour or longer in this desert setting or sit by the dam. You can get soft drinks and snacks at the main building, and buy souvenirs. It only cost 50p per person and about 70p for taxi from central.
Beautiful desert botanical garden with walking trails. Wear a hat and sunscreen if you go in the middle of the day! There's a simple, yummy cafe there, as well.
