Considered the last big Mayan civilization before the arrival of the Spanish, Mayapan Archaeological Zone remains relatively unvisited. There are over 4,000 structures to view practically on your own within the surrounding 9 km (5.5 mi) stone wall. The site does not have any restrictions, so you can photograph the ancient dwellings to your heart’s desire. Be sure to walk through the ceremonial center where temples, halls, shrines, platforms, and altars can be found, or take the time to climb to the top of the pyramid and view the site from above.     Five stars for a couple of reasons! #1 we were the only people on the site for the first hour - had the place to ourselves #2 You are allowed to climb the pyramid! This is a easy 45 minute drive...  more »

    Amazing site! Being able to get close and walk upon the structures was phenomenal! Nice to see restorations too

    This was wonderful!! I loved all the buildings and surrounding foliage! So beautiful and authentic. Would recommend to everyone thinking about going! Climbing up the temple is a must! Everything looks so great from up high, you can see the whole ground, all the tree tops, and it's a great place for pictures!
