Seven Colored Earths, Chamarel

Witness an impressive geological formation at Seven Colored Earths. The attractive area of dunes features sand of seven distinct colors: red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow settle in separate layers, forming colorful stripes. The decomposition of volcanic rock cooling at different temperatures causes the separation, which, taken as a whole, appears otherworldly. Remember to bring your camera to catch this strange natural sight from behind the fences of the observation deck, and consider taking home a small tube of the sands from one of the many sellers by the entrance. • It offers a great Mauritius experience. However it can be a bit crowded at times as the result of this being a unique destination. Overall it’s a good experience and if you want to take good pictures ...  more »

  • An unspoilt natural wonder which is a must visit for anyone who loves to admire the beauty of our wonderful planet. This place is located towards the south of the country. The time when the colours truly come alive and when the sun is not directly on the sand. Ideally mornings or towards dusk is better. One other time the colours are gorgeous are when it has rained and the sand is slightly wet. This clearly defines the variances the colour well. There are also some turtles here. Nice to see such large land turtles. Such magnificent creatures. There are eating/drinking options here, which make it a great place to also sit down and grab a bite. There is ample parking for the car and there are washrooms here as well. Caution: there were some mosquitoes here and might be a good idea to take some repellent along. Summary: (5/5) Because of its natural beauty an the fact we went post a small rain shower that made the sand stand out.
  • Pretty good and unspoilt. Unashamedly a tourist attraction but not over done. Approach road is long but well paved. Stop at waterfall along the way. Cafe nice but simple so don't go expecting a meal. Views of the earths are controlled but good viewpoints. Bring a camera pole or tripod if you have one. Recommended
