#1 of 93 in Parks in Malta
Once reserved as a retreat for the Knights of the Italian langue, Upper Barrakka Gardens today is one of the country's most beautiful public gardens. The park, created in 1755, sits perched at the highest point of the city walls and offers superb views of the Grand Harbor, the old towns of Senglea and Vittoriosa, and the Saluting Battery below. Relish the gardens' striking vistas and discover a number of significant statues, including a gift from Winston Churchill and an artwork created by one of Malta's best-known sculptors, Antonio Sciortino. Relax on one of the many benches, and grab refreshments from the small on-site cafe. Using our custom trip planner, Valletta attractions like Upper Barrakka Gardens can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta overlook the Grand Harbour, one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. One can admire the walled cities on the opposite side, old forts and the ancient castle of St Angelo. The harbour itself is quite busy with a thriving yacht marina and at least two busy waterfronts. The breakwater itself is very interesting. Of course once one visits the Upper Barrakka, one feels compelled to walk down to the Lower Barrakka, itself a beautiful garden with fantastic views.
  • Amazing view from there! And it has a great summer vibe somehow reminding me of Florence. The port from there looks beautiful. Everything seems very peaceful. Go close to sunset but also later in the evening as it's opened until 10PM.
