Chateau de Vianden, Vianden

Transport yourself centuries back in time at Chateau de Vianden, a medieval fortress and palace dating back to the 14th century. Before you enter, notice the guard towers--one white and one black--flanking the main structure. Walk through a total of five gates, including a drawbridge and a descending grid. Afterward, you'll come to the little palace, where you can see the armory and Byzantine hall with its beautiful trefoil windows. Next, find the great palace, the largest section of the castle, featuring a knights' hall. Perhaps the most significant section, however, is the Romanesque-style chapel, which boasts two floors with an opening in the middle and balconies for the nobles. • Majestic and overlooking the city, this castle is just waiting to be visited. Well-maintained, it welcomes adults for the modest sum of 7 eur. It is possible to add an audio system to complete your visit with a set of explanations about the place in your language. It is possible to eat and cool off in the castle. An incredible view of the city will allow you to admire the beauties of it

  • This beautiful, picturesque castle is located in a quaint little town alongside the Our River. Although we chose to walk to the top, it did seem like there were buses available that stop just a short distance from the main entrance. I would recommend buying the Luxembourg Card for those travelling the country, as this grants you free transport as well as free entry into loads of locations. We came to Vianden Castle from Luxembourg central via bus, which was very straightforward. The castle itself is very large with plenty of things to see inside.
  • Beautiful place, definitely worth it! The tour takes some time, there is a lot to see, read and simply enjoy. This castle is quite original and they did a great job with the renovations! You have a souvenir shop, you can get some drinks and some food too. Great place to visit with your family or friends.
