Founded by the patron saint of Luxembourg, Abbey of Echternach was the most powerful institution in Luxembourg for 300 years. Known for an annual dancing procession, the abbey is a major tourist destination. The dancing procession attracts pilgrims, tourists, clergy, and townspeople who come to dance through town to the abbey. It begins with a sermon at a bridge crossing the Sauer River and ends at the attraction. Inside the church, a humble chapel features niches and altars adorned with statuary. You'll also find old murals that depict biblical stories. Although the atmosphere is holy and modest, this church had a powerful influence on the country. Indulge in a stroll around the abbey grounds, where you can enjoy the gardens and surrounding buildings.
