Devil's Museum, Kaunas

#1 of 23 in Museums in Kaunas
Fortified with artifacts and pieces donated by visitors, Devil's Museum houses more than 3,000 displays of devil depictions from cultures and regions across the globe. Originally begun by collector Antanas Zmuidzinavicius in his own home, the museum formed as a tribute after his death. Stop by the facility and explore three stories of artwork, focused primarily on carvings and sculptures featuring devils and other similar creatures of legend. Note that many are carved or grafted onto simple household items, giving them a personal quality. Be sure to keep an eye out for Zmuidzinavicius' own artwork, often illustrating ghastly scenes of violence and punishment doled out by devils upon those that have deceived; these are housed in an exhibit along with other devil-themed works from the nations of the former Soviet Union. • The museum is not bad, in its own way the only one of its kind. It is interesting and informative to read the annotations (plus to the staff for training). But, since it is a non-standard museum (already its theme), it would be nice to bring into it a "devil" in the form of an interactive. We, two adults, did not have enough, what to say about children. Well, you could make a mask, a cape so that visitors can take pictures in a witch's or a damn suit. Well, and with pleasure then went to the memorial museum Yumujinavicius and saw the artist's works.

  • What a nice museum! As in many museums there were few visitors and we had all the time and space to see the collection of devils well. Nice interesting information also in English. The older ladies did not speak English, but two younger ladies did. Particularly sixties Eastern Bloc building for those who love it.

  • Absolutely a must see if you're in any way interested in folklore and especially, obviously, in the concept of evil and the devil in folklore. Three stories of statues and masks, some from all around the world. Recommended!
  • Very interesting place to visit not only are there statues and art pieces focusing on Devils in different cultures displayed but also you can learn a lot about story's and myths about them. Also in the museum is a great display of art and drawings by the founder of the museum
