At Central Market (Centraltirgus), see how old German zeppelin hangars from World War I were reconstructed to serve as venues to sell meat, fish, produce, and dairy products. One of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia, this market has been included in World Heritage List. Try some smoked salmon, homemade apple juice, caviar, or freshly picked mushrooms. You can shop for nonfood items, too, such as knee-length woolen socks with "Riga" knitted into them. Each pavilion has slightly different opening hours. To visit Central Market (Centraltirgus) on your trip to Riga, use our Riga journey builder website.

Important: you cannot pay using your card, better to have some cash in advance. However, I was recently surprised that I could pay by card to buy chicken breast in the meat pavilion. They are becoming more customer oriented
  • I can't say everything is available here but you can find almost all of your basic things at a reasonable price. Seriously the biggest market I've seen in my entire life. A very unique and special shopping malls at a broad scale. You should definitely check them out. The photos attached are just a separate section for meat. Just check how big the market is ....
