Admission costs 25,000k per person but you can easily spend an hour between the permanent exhibition hall, the adjacent room housing a temporary exhibition on traditional Laotian music and instruments (extended for another year until September 2020), the small local craft shop that offers fine quality products (so necessarily more expensive than elsewhere), and the terrace-covered space that consists of small workshops for children and adults (To know a product "handmade" VS indistriel / Learn a few basic words in Laotian / Practice weaving bamboo strips / Try different musical instruments...) A space has been specially designed for children, with the possibility of dressing up with traditional clothes or doing coloring. The terrace also houses a relaxation/coffee area (cold and hor drinks between 10,000 and 15,000k).
The museum itself was nice and informative but I felt that the admission fee of 25K was a bit high for the size of this museum. That said, you could learn about the different minorities that dominate Laos, and this museum focuses on a few of them and showcases their culture. Would recommend this place to anyone who's interested in culture.
Absolutely worth a visit! One of the only places I would describe as a museum in Laos, and very interesting and informative at that. While it isn't very large, it is still gives more information on the culture of Laos than pretty much anywhere else we went. They also have a gift shop with hand made items, which is also worth a visit. Highly recommend.
