Admire the impressive statue of the national icon at Monument to Manas the Great, a centrally located monument in Ala-Too Square. Erected in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the nation's independence, the statue portrays the main protagonist of a national epic written in an 18th-century Persian manuscript. Sculpted by Bazarbai Sydykov and cast in Moscow, the 17 m (55 ft) tall equestrian sculpture holds a sheathed sword with his left hand. The statue replaced the previous 12 m (39 ft) tall monument to Erkindik, a woman representing liberty, which had in 1999 replaced a statue of Lenin. The face, according to the artist, resembles the face of the famous late Kyrgyz actor, Suimenkul Chokmorov. • The epic of Manas is considered by Kyrgyz historians to be the longest in history. This is one of the most impressive statues to Manas.  more »
  • Its definitely the most impressive of all the statues in all of Bishkek. The architectural design is really beautiful, and the square around it equally as neat.  more »
