Verny Park, Yokosuka

4.1
#2 of 31 in Parks in Yokosuka
Scenic Walking Area · Hidden Gem · Park
Watch docked warships at the site of the first modern Japanese arsenal at Verny Park, a seaside area covered with roses, carrying the name of its French designer, Léonce Verny. Yokosuka US Navy base and a Japanese Navy area across the bay provide a good opportunity to photograph docking destroyers, moored submarines, and huge cargo supply ships. The park abounds with many varieties of roses, meticulously labeled so you can remember which one you liked most. Take a relaxing stroll and observe locals walking their dogs, then pop into the small museum, which gives a good insight in the history of the area and its great industrial heritage.
