  • On February 26, 1872, the castle was destroyed by a fire, leaving one wall, a storehouse, a coffin, and three castle gates. The former castle ruins became the campus of Yanagikawa High School and Yanagishiro Junior High School. The remains are the castle tower, the stone wall, and the moat, which remain as the remains of the Yanagawa Castle Honmaru. The ruins of the castle tower are located in a corner of the playground of Yanagishiro Junior High School. It was built in the southwest corner of Honmaru, surrounded by a castle tower stone wall. According to the old photographs and literature taken at the end of the Edo period and the Meiji period, it is considered to be a multi-purpose 5-heavy 5th floor layer-shaped castle tower. It is presumed that the top floor is a section of the inner edge that covers the edge with a rain door such as Kumamoto Castle castle tower, and the arrangement of the wind was similar to Fukuyama Castle Castle and Tokugawa Osaka Castle Castle.
