Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park
Part of a larger national park, Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park features a series of hot springs that attract a large number of Japanese macaques. Especially picturesque when covered in snow, this remote area allows you to observe monkeys as they bathe in the pools of warm water. Get close to the animals and take a few photos, but remember that it's forbidden to touch and feed the wildlife sheltered within park grounds. We had so much fun in this valley and the monkeys where enjoying the hot springs. The walk to get there is a bit icy and slippery, be sure to wear the adequate footwear! more »

One of the most famous destination in Japan. Expect to spend around 3 hours. If you are departing from Tokyo, make sure you leave early. Buses are recommended and the frequency is approximately 1 bus.... more »

The most beautiful nature walk I have ever seen in my life. The whole mountain was quiet and covered with blankets of snow. The trail was very safe in my opinion and clearly created to make the most comfortable walk possible. If you stop walking you can not hear anything and it is beautiful. The area with the monkeys was lively but not crowded. The monkeys will walk right by you. But please leave them be. They do not bother us so please do not bother them. They get so close to you it’s like you’re walking with nature itself. It’s truly a once in a life time experience.

It’s wonderful place to visit in japan. Also foreigners friendly. That’s good for me. There are 2 parking lots for this park. One is free but you have to walk 1.6km. But things is most of the roads are flat. On the other hand other parking lot is close to the park and it will cost you 500¥. Which is ok. But the 3km road is very narrow and scary for me. Specially in the winter time. Monkeys are very decent and well behaved people.
