Ruriko Temple Five-Story Pagoda, Yamaguchi

4.6
Must see · Landmark · Tourist Spot
A masterpiece of architecture and a symbol of Yamaguchi, Ruriko Temple Five-Story Pagoda competes with most impressive traditional buildings in Japan. With the distinguished gentle slopes of its wide overhanging roof, it stands 31 m tall (102 ft) on a river bank at the foot of a hill amid lush greenery. Built in 1442, the pagoda overlooks a carp pond. Inside the temple, which was moved here in 1690, you can see models of the 50-plus five-storied pagodas found across Japan. The site, a five minute walk from Kencho-mae bus station and a five minute bus ride from Yamaguchi, makes a great place to take photos. • Loved pagoda. Recommend going around the other side of the pagoda to see it behind - it's only a short walk up a hill.
  • Historic five stories tower made of wood.
