In Wajima Morning Market, shop for fresh seafood and Wajima's famous lacquerware. Street vendors and merchants fill out the narrow street, enclosed by rustic wooden houses. Besides seafood of all sorts, try shio-senbei (Japanese rice crackers). Find treasures in antique shops, jewelry, colorful chopsticks and dining ware, vegetables, and much more. When hungry, pick up some of the sashimi and other delicacies sold by street vendors. • There is a convenient parking spot next to the market. We went early around 9am and there were many female vendors cleaning the fishes they were selling. It was very clean despite it is a fresh fish.....  more »
  • the shopkeepers tend to be pushy (not something that is common in Japan); didn’t like the atmosphere. A lot of the urushi goods are not authentic Wajima-made but imported from China.  more »
