Head up the limestone hills to admire the design and history of Katsuren Castle Ruins, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built around the turn of the 14th century CE, the castle had what has often been called its "golden age" during the middle of the 15th century, when it was ruled by Lord Amawari, a leader who had risen from poverty and adversity to a position of great power. Learn about the history of the site from a number of panels dotted around the ruins, and take a few moments to admire the extensive coastal views offered from this point, 98 m (322 ft) above sea level. My husband proposed to me here in 2017. This is a beautiful place! God is good.
