Street of Kinosaki Onsen, Toyooka
Take a leisurely stroll down Street of Kinosaki Onsen, the center of the traditional resort area. Famous for its "onsen" (Japanese hot spring spas), pop into one of the seven traditional spas to sample a range of different treatments and relax in the naturally warm water. Watch locals walk around in their "yukuta" (a casual, summertime kimono) between the onsen and "ryokans" (traditional Japanese inns) in a pleasant scene of traditional town life. For a special treat, buy a bag of eggs by the main fountain, and have them boiled in the hot water while you wait. Street of Kinosaki Onsen Reviews
強いて2つ選ぶなら個人的には... more »I visited Kinosaki Onsen for the first time. Speaking of the most fun of Kinosaki Onsen, I think it's a seven-part bath tour in yukata. Souvenirs and a playground are open until late at night, so you can take a walk after dinner. Drinking fountains are also available. This area is symmetrical with Arima Onsen and so on. The seven outdoor hot spring rounds are part of the business hours (close at 23 o'clock at night), so it's hard to get around all the time. Some of the facilities are located within a long distance from the center. If you are strong e.g., I personally recommend "Gosho no Yu" and "Ichino-no-yu". There are shampoos and hair dryers in the open water, so guests to each hotel and ryokan of Kinosaki Onsen can bring a towel from each facility. I included the outside hot spring tour in the accommodation plan, but it is more convenient to include the outside hot spring tour when choosing a plan by all means. In particular, the location is very close to the center of Kinosaki Onsen. There seems to be a shuttle bus to the area of the drinking fountain in the accommodation away from the center. In winter, crabs are also delicious. It is a hot spring which I want to visit again in a different season. It is a place that I want to recommend to foreign tourists.
A resort town with many hot springs, shops and restaurants. Can be quite crowded. Crab and beef dining is popular. more »
This was my favourite location in Japan and the place I will remember the most. I went in January when it was winter and there was nothing better than walking outside in the snow and then going into the Onsen to warm up. I am not sure how it would be during the other seasons, but in winter it was definitely incredible as it became white from all the snow.
Kinosaki Onsen wasn't my cup of tea. Yes, there are 7 different Onsens you can visit and dip into. Of the 7, only 4 are impressive in my opinion. The rest are more like small hot swimming pools. The water in all of them runs around 40 degree Celsius, which might be too much for some. Be mindful on how to take an Onsen bath and cover your tattoo if you have any. The town itself is extremely stressful to navigate during the day. There are no footpaths but a LOT of car traffic, meaning you spend most of your time squeezing against the walls. Not relaxing at all. During night time however, the town is way quieter and most of the bathers will walk around town wearing traditional Japanese outfits, which is charming. The streets are also lit up with lanterns, giving off a cosy atmosphere. The cable car and the mountain is definitely worth a visit.
