See the impressively crafted works at The Sand Museum, showcasing pieces made using sand from the nearby dunes. Just a short walk from the dunes themselves, the museum houses huge sculptures by artists from across the world, with a unifying theme that changes each year. The works range from architectural creations to figurative statues, focusing on different aspects of a given region to create an exhibit that has variety as well as cohesion. The museum offers an interesting perspective on humanity's relationship with the natural world, especially when combined with a trip to the expansive, untouched dunes themselves. The Sand Museum Reviews
鳥取砂丘にいったら砂の美術館にも併せていくことをお... more »Tottori Sand Dunes are within walking foot. It is decorated with sculptures made of sand. They decide on a theme every year. Really sand?!?! The sculptures that surprise me. Amazing! I think that i can enjoy it because I can take a lot of pictures. Moreover, because it is a place like a big gymnasium, it is not so vast but is a feeling that it is settled compactly. You don't have to get tired of walking. I recommend that you go to the Tottori Sand Dunes and join the museum of sand!! Amazing!!!
Awesome detail. A great place to stop in and see. Good for all ages. Can get a great view of the dunes also. more »
They seem to do a theme each year. Seeing the work up close in person is pretty cool. The detail, even making shadows in the sand. Then, reading the artist reason for the design makes everything seem complete. There is a bus that takes you directly there or one right around the corner. The area also has plenty of parking, if not at the museum down the street.
A very unique museum with exhibits featuring different countries every year. This year’s theme is Nordic countries. The sand sculptures are incredibly detailed and there are back stories explained in English so you can understand the history or folklore behind them. It seems like there are some special activities for taking pictures or making your own sculptures (more for kids) that are open at other times, but not Tuesday night when we went. It’s a cool museum but pretty small and a little pricey for the entrance fee.
