Tucked away in a quiet, residential part of the city, you'll find the ancient shrine of Kishimojindo. The present complex was constructed in 1664 around the shrine, where worshippers pray to the goddess Kishimojin, a deity from India who protected the birth of babies and the nurturing of children. Look out for the large, picturesque gingko trees, planted as a natural monument on the site by the city's metropolitan government. The once-a-month DIY market in this temple was just amazing. Last time we went there were about seventies stalls out there selling some of the finest handmade, creative, artistic, practical, and unique clothing, decoration, food, and household items. Most stall-owners were extremely friendly to passersby even though (s)he might not end up making a purchase. Just an ideal place!
Looks impressive and the temple grounds also houses an old ginko tree as well as one of the oldest candy shops in Tokyo. The surrounding neighborhood is also very nice and quiet and great for an afternoon walk.
