Lake Mashu, Teshikaga-cho

Must see · Water Body · Nature / Park
Sometimes called the clearest lake in the world, Lake Mashu formed in the caldera of a potentially active stratovolcano, making it one of the most fertile and volatile areas in Japan. Surrounded by steep crater walls 200 m (660 ft) high, the transparent lake harbors an abundant diversity of life. During summer you might witness how the thick mist obscures its crystal surface, making the entire area even more mysterious. (A local legend even says that if you can see the surface of the lake during the mist, you'll have bad luck.) Many observation decks dot the area; visit all of them for that perfect photograph. • My favourite of the Akan national park lakes. The scenary was stunning, there were not many people around and it was just beautiful scenery. There is a hike there, but i reached too late and was too tired to try.
  • The beautiful and romantic lake! Let's go and feel!
