Higashiyama Walking Course provides a pleasant stroll through the city's various historic and natural sites. Over 3.5 km (2.2 mi), you'll be exposed to the temples and shrines of the traditional town of Takayama, the houses and back streets of the rural suburbs, and the forested pathway leading to the hilltop site of Takayama Castle. The forested part of the trail affords opportunities to observe wild life, so consider bringing along a pair of binoculars, and look out for the Japanese serow, which frequents the area around the castle remains.   • Many places were closed for Covid so I opted to take this walk and was very happy I did. Many interesting historical landmarks to see. Plan on a couple hours. Do the Kita walk also for the mountain.....  more »
