外国人観光客は周りにいれど、記念撮影の対象にはされて無かった。代わりに、スカイツリーが見える角度で、威厳ある横顔を撮影した。 more »Foreign tourists were not included in the commemorative photo, even though they were around. Instead, I shot a dignified profile at an angle where I could see the sky tree.
He is the model for the movie “The Last Samurai.” He is very controversial person because he played the central role in overthrowing Tokugawa Shogun government, but he revolted against the new Meiji government he built. He is still very popular among people. Everyone calls him Saigo san. We never call him general Saigo although he was the first general in modern army of Japan.
The statue of Saigo Takamori was created by a famous sculptor, Takamura Kōun in 1897 and dedication ceremony was observed in 1898. Since then, the statue and its park have been known as landmark of Tokyo. It's a great place for walking, jogging , sightseeing and taking a rest!
