Katakura Hall, Suwa

3.8
Constructed in 1928 as a public spa house built over natural hot springs, Katakura Hall features nostalgic European-style architecture typical of the roaring 1920s. With two medium-depth marble pools lined by gravel, this historic establishment can take up to 100 people at a time, and its water has no smell of sulfur. Admire the spa house's stained glass and various sculptures, such as two human-size griffons guarding the exit, a small exhibition featuring an antique telephone, and a typewriter once used in the hall. You can order a meal or browse through a small gift shop. You can plan Suwa trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

  • It is on the other side of the road of Lakeside Park in Suwa City. There were several Western-style buildings designated as important cultural properties of the country, and one of them was a hot spring bath. It is not an old-fashioned Japanese-style public bath, but a building designed in a rare Western style, and a very large bathtub is said to be a thousand-person bath. The bathing fee was 750 yen for adults and 450 yen for children, and from 10:00 to 21:00 (registration closes at 20:30). Katakurakan was built as a hot spring that can be used by the general public by the Katakura family, which formed a single zaibatsu at Katakura Spinning Spinning Co., Ltd. It's great for the citizens. I wanted to enter very much, but i was just in front of the student group after the club activity was going to take a bath, so this time I met. It is said that it is a thousand people bath indeed, but dozens of people might be very crowded at the same time.

  • I've known it through stories and photographs for a long time, but i was impressed by how wonderful it was when I visited it for the first time this summer. The old but clean and bright 1,000-person bath is not only recommended for the appearance, but also for bathing, including elaborate decorations throughout.
