Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Shinjuku

4.6
#1 of 7,447 in Parks in Japan
Originally constructed for the private residence of "daimyo" (feudal lord) Naito in the Edo period, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden has served as a public park under the Ministry of the Environment since its reconstruction after World War II. Tour the park to see its three main sections: a traditional Japanese garden dotted with ponds intercepted by islands and bridges; a symmetrically planned French garden; and an English garden with sweeping lawns and cherry blossom trees. Stop by the greenhouse to inspect the permanent and special exhibits of tropical flowers. • This is the most beautiful city park I have ever visited - such a nice contrast to the surrounding Tokyo metropolis.  more »
  • Unlike the cherry of Ueno Park, the predecessor of Shinjuku Palace was the emperor's Imperial Garden, so the 遼 wide, a number of cherry flowers, is not just a stunning cherry flower, and when you walk past the garden, you also enjoy the Imperial garden of the Emperor of Japan. The landscape in Shinjuku Regency Aleppo More, not just cherry flowers and many different plants, which are good for a picnic with family.

  • Recommended because it leaves time to go and enjoy the exhibition of chrysanthemums and roses. It is fun every year to stroll slowly over about half a day, weather permitting.

  • One of the nicest places to visit in Tokyo, it's hard to believe the bustling city is so close. One needs to pay yo get in but it's worth the small charge. The park is divided into gardens: the English rose garden, Japanese garden (with tea house) and so on. The wooded area in autumn is spectacular for its colours and of course, in spring, there are cherry trees to view. There is also a hot house with a range of orchids and other tropical species. It's a perfect place to walk, meditate and relax, even in colder weather.
  • There is a small fee to get in but its worth it. You can have a picnic here and walk around for pictures. If you go during fall season, its very beautiful with the fall foliage colors in trees. You would need a couple of hours to walk around here. Compare to central park, its not that big and you wont get lost, if you do its not impossible to get yourself out. Every path ways lead you to another sight
  • One of the most beautiful parks in central Tokyo. A wonderful place where families can relax due to the wide open spaces. The park is immaculately maintained. This is a popular spot during cherry blossom or when the leaves change color during autumn. This place is a lovely little refuge for those seeking a little nature in a bustling metropolitan city.
  • brought mum here to experience the bloom. its a great park to relax and have a picnic, and since (apparently) they grow different species around the park - you get to at least see some blooms all year round. and being such a public place, i was also pleasantly surprised at how clean they kept the public toilets.
  • A wonderful, beautiful and clean park. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. I didn't expect to witness such beautify in the center of Tokyo, Japan. You can wander around for hours without getting bored. The park provides enough amenities to keep you going.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
