Kanmon Bridge, Shimonoseki

4.2
Extending 712 m (2,336 ft) between its two towers, Kanmon Bridge symbolizes the expanses of the Kanmon Strait. Accessible via an underwater tunnel, which includes a pedestrian walkway, the boundary between the two connected prefectures of Yamaguchi and Fukuoka offers a popular photo setting. At night, the suspension bridge lights up, appearing to float above the water. Kanmon Bridge is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Shimonoseki Edition.

  • It is a bridge connecting Shimonoseki at the edge of Honshu and moji at the edge of Kyushu. There are many ways to get in touch, whether you cross by car, walk on a human road, or sail under a bridge. This time, I watched it while eating lunch from Moji. It's white and beautiful.

  • The Kanmon Bridge (関門橋 Kanmonkyō) (Asian Highway Network ) is a suspension bridge crossing the Kanmon Straits, a stretch of water separating two of Japan's four main islands. Kanmon Bridge connects Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Honshu Island to Mojiko, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu Island. On the Honshū side of the bridge is Shimonoseki (下関, which contributed Kan to the name of the strait) and on the Kyūshū side is Kitakyushu, whose former city and present ward, Moji (門司), gave the strait its mon. The Kanmon Bridge was opened to vehicles on November 14, 1973 and connected to the Kyūshū Expressway on March 27, 1984. It is among the 50 largest suspension bridges in the world with a central length of 1,068 metres (3,504 feet).
